Sustainable Islamic Urbanism Program

Doha Design District (DDD), in collaboration with Msheireb Properties and Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), conducted a five-week course on Sustainable Islamic Urbanism. The modules positioned Msheireb Downtown Doha as a global “Living Lab” for contemporary Islamic urban design and were delivered as part of HBKU’s academic programme. The course combined lectures, research, and immersive fieldwork, enabling students to examine how heritage, identity, sustainability, and policy intersect in shaping future-ready cities. Through site visits and expert-led sessions, students engaged directly with Msheireb’s architecture and planning model, gaining practical insight into how Islamic principles can be meaningfully reinterpreted in modern urban environments aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030.
