Reflection of light on Qatar’s Waters is the work of Youssuf Ahmad, a pioneering Qatari artist whose practice explores identity, memory, and heritage through innovative materials and abstract expression rooted in local culture.
The waters surrounding Qatar are distinguished by their shallowness. When light reflects on their surface, it
reveals the seabed below, where clusters of rocks—locally known in Qatar as al fasht—appear alongside
underwater formations that create striking natural patterns and shapes.
This installation is created using locally handmade Qatari palm tree paper, together with dye pigments, to
reflect the beauty of what lies beneath the water’s surface. It captures the textures, formations, and the subtle shimmer of rocks and coral reefs as they sparkle under the reflected light, translating this unique Qatari seascape into a tactile and visual expression.
