Meet Victor Ekpuk
Victor Ekpuk is a Smithsonian Fellow and internationally renowned artist based in Washington, D.C. Celebrating over three decades of work across paintings, sculptures, and monumental installations, his practice draws inspiration from Nsibidi, an ancient ideographic script from southeastern Nigeria. By transforming these sacred ideograms into modern abstraction, Ekpuk explores cultural memory, identity, and the universal human condition.
I cannot describe my art; one must see it. I have developed a personal vocabulary that evokes the interplay of art and writing, where legibility and illegibility are metaphors to be felt rather than read literally.
