Meet Abdulrahman Al Muftah
Abdulrahman Al Muftah is a Qatari designer and artist whose work brings together tradition, materiality and contemporary forms. Born and raised in the coastal town of Al Wakrah, Qatar, he reflects on the cultural memory of place and craft to create objects and installations that speak of heritage and the future alike.
Design doesn't end with the object is complete, its a responsibility that extends to how it affects people, communities and the environment - every decision ripple outwards
Key Projects
- Bird house Cluster Project - A recent collaborative project between Doha Design District (DDD) and VCUarts Qatar: Al Muftah designed a sustainable sanctuary for Qatar’s native Bulbul birds
- Eadah: Tools for Celebrating Qatari Wellness Rituals - It explores the pre-prayer cleansing (ablution) ritual in the Qatari/Islamic context and designs a set of contemporary tools inspired by traditional Qatari remedies and wellness practices.
- Rain on Materiality - Three large, painted copper sheets vividly capture how each droplet of rain etches a narrative of longing on the metal billboards scattered across Qatar’s landscape.
