Overview

Held as part of Qatar in Patterns, this talk is a rare opportunity to discover the language behind Gulf and Qatari ornament. Not simply as surface, but as structure, memory and identity.
The session, led by Mohamad Ali Abal, unpacks the rules and grammar that have given this art form its distinct character across thousands of years.

From there, it moves through the history of decoration in the region, considering why colour has traditionally been used with restraint, and why so much richness is found in shades of grey.
The talk closes with a look at geometry itself: the shapes, proportions and mathematical logic quietly at work behind every pattern.

Session will be held in English.
