Designed in Qatar, Made for the World: Doha Design District and VCUarts Qatar Shape Qatar’s Design Future

Doha Design District participated in the VCUarts Qatar Doorway Career event, connecting with students, alumni, and graduates to showcase career opportunities within Qatar’s growing creative sector while reaffirming its longstanding collaboration with VCUarts Qatar.

Held at Mondrian Doha, the event brought together leading organisations from across Qatar’s creative industries, offering students and graduates valuable insights into career pathways and professional opportunities. As part of the programme, Doha Design District highlighted its vision as Qatar’s first district dedicated entirely to design, craft, and creative culture. The District also presented the opportunities available for emerging creatives within its growing ecosystem.

Attendees learned about several of the District’s flagship initiatives, including the VCU Creative Hub, a 1,170-square-metre production and fabrication facility set to open in 2027 with printing studios and maker spaces, as well as Mada, the District’s artist residency programme, currently home to VCUarts Qatar alumni Yasamin Shaikhi and Nada Elkharashi.

The presentation also highlighted TEC, the designer café and community hub founded by VCUarts Qatar alumna Noof Al Heidous. The venue demonstrates how the District continues to foster meaningful connections between education, entrepreneurship, and industry.

Alongside presentations from organisations including Qatar Foundation, Al Jazeera, FP7 McCann, JMJ Group Holding, and Wusum Gallery, students gained first-hand insight into the breadth of opportunities within Qatar’s creative economy. A career coaching session with Elisa Grimaldi further equipped attendees with practical advice for launching their professional journeys.

The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to nurturing the next generation of Qatari and Gulf-based creative talent. As Doha Design District continues to grow, with the VCU Creative Hub set to open in 2027 and the District advancing its vision as a global platform for Qatar’s creative industries, it remains a natural destination for graduates looking to shape the future of design from Qatar to the world.
