Doha Design District (DDD) welcomed professors and master’s students from Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) for a half-day immersive educational visit as part of its ongoing Education Program, reinforcing DDD’s role as a hub for applied design, architecture, and sustainable urban learning.
The visit brought together faculty and students from HBKU’s Green Buildings course, offering first-hand exposure to Msheireb Downtown Doha as a fully operational smart and sustainable urban district. The programme included presentations on Msheireb’s masterplan and sustainability framework, a guided tour of the district’s Command-and-Control Center, and an on-site lecture and discussion at the Msheireb Enrichment Center focusing on heritage engineering and retrofitting.
Designed to bridge academic theory with real-world application, the visit enabled students to explore smart city infrastructure, sustainable systems integration, and the operational intelligence behind long-term urban sustainability. Positioned as a “living classroom,” Doha Design District continues to support experiential learning and meaningful collaboration between academia and industry, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
This visit reflects DDD’s ongoing commitment to design education, community engagement, and the development of future generations of designers, architects, and urban thinkers.
